Hartford likely to host boxing card featuring Dawson

WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson, 23-0, is expected to be the co-feature on a June 9 Showtime boxing card that will likely be at the new Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford according to Dawson's manager Mike Criscio.

New Haven's Dawson, who won the title in a unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Tomasz Adamek of Poland on Feb. 3 in Kissimmee, Fla., is scheduled to fight Jesus "Chuy" Ruiz, (Mexico), a 19-4 light heavyweight from Mexico.

Criscio said the fight was "95 percent" certain for Hartford, but allowed that a venue in Los Angeles was also still in play for the card that will feature Antonio Tarver, the former undisputed light heavyweight champ (28-4) against Elvir Muriqu (34-3) IBO light heavyweight championship fight as the main event.

Criscio said that the June 9 fight could be a prelim to a Dawson-Tarver Pay-Per-View showdown in the fall.
