Oliver Wins Vacant IBO
Super Bantamweight Belt!
(By Joseph Davey - Ringside)
November 8, 2007
In the main event, Mike "Machine Gun" Oliver
of Hartford Connecticut took on Savannah Georgia's Al Seeger for the
vacant IBO super bantamweight title. Oliver started slowly and ate a
number of sharp jabs and straight right hands from Seeger in the early
going. As a result, swelling developed almost immediately under the
right eye of Oliver which, rather than frustrating him, seemed to
inspire him to mount an offensive. From the fourth round on Oliver
began launching crisp right hooks which landed with authority on
Seeger's chin. Seeger's punch output slowly began to drop while the
amount he held began to increase. Undeterred, Oliver began to mix in
hard straight lefts with his hooks and managed to stun Seeger with
regularity in Rounds 6-8. To further add to Seeger's troubles, he was
docked a point for holding in Round 10 and to most in attendance, he
appeared hopelessly behind on the cards. Surprisingly the scores
announced were close: 115-112 114-113 116-111 all, rightfully so, for
Oliver. With this unanimous decision win Oliver now stands at 21-0
(7KO's) while Seeger falls to 27-3 (21KO's)
